Selling my WebDT 366 - 4GB SSD, 4GB CF, extras

Well, it's time to move on.  The projects that I bought the WebDT have been complete for a while, so I've put it up on eBay. http://cgi.ebay.com/WebDT-366-rugged-tablet-4GB-SSD-4GB-CF-Puppy-Linux-/300566653661?pt=US_Tablets&hash=item45fb2b2add It has the 4GB SSD as well as a 4GB CF card.  Easel,...

XP Pro, Service Packs, and Disk Writes

Hopefully someone else can confirm or deny this, because it's driving me up the wall.  Base OS is XP Pro, SP0.  Yep, the media I'm using really is nearly nine years old at this point. Install from CD.  Update to SP1A; disk writes are minimal.  Update to SP3; disk writes everywhere. Slipstream SP3 in...

Re: Haiku on a DT366

More improvements - Haiku is now installed to the SSD and booting fully.  The USB issues were solved by powering up the unit with no USB devices plugged in, waiting for POST to finish, then powering off again.  At that point I could plug in the CD-ROM, keyboard, and mouse via the USB hub, power up, ...

Re: Haiku on a DT366

Made some more progress with this last night.  Not a lot, but it did show up a couple of things I hadn't expected.  USB touchiness is a contributing factor here; more on that in a minute. Failures: - Cannot boot from USB flash drive.  Black screen, no progress. This now works, though not consistentl...

Re: Google Chrome OS on DT366

Ubuntu is Debian based. If there were mentions of a debian based system and it was in fact built upon ubuntu then there would be no false information exchanged no? Fair point, and I see what you're getting at.  Thing is, Ubuntu and Debian (despite sharing a common base and package management) seem ...

Re: Google Chrome OS on DT366

It could be ubuntu based but here's my thought process: Google has there own ubuntu distro that they use in house. I strongly doubt this.  They listed the requirements for setting up the build environment, and it uses two public releases of Ubuntu are specifically mentioned by name.  Why reinvent t...

Re: Google Chrome OS on DT366

It's debian based http://googlesystem.blogspot.com/2009/11/google-chrome-os-press-event.html I'm not entirely certain about that.  According to http://dev.chromium.org/chromium-os/building-chromium-os , the supported build environment is "Ubuntu (Hardy 8.04 or newer, Karmic 9.10 recommended)&q...

Re: Complete Image of Puppy 4.3.1 including Penmount drivers and hardware buttons

Considering how much trouble I had with the same task I am actually quite surprised that wicd is not standard issue for Puppy. After hours of poking around in "Pwireless" and the newer one I managed to get connected. It did take swapping out my cisco pcmcia card for a netgear for it to ha...

Haiku on a DT366

Did a little more experimentation today, this time with Haiku (http://www.haiku-os.org/).  If you're not familiar with BeOS, I'd suggest looking that up first since Haiku aims to pick up where BeOS left off.  The other important thing to understand is that it is not Linux- or *BSD-based, but does ma...

Looks like a how to popped up for compiling Android for the geode lx hardware http://wiki.androidx86.org/index.php?title=Configure_and_build_kernel_for_Geode_processors Nice.  Thanks for that; once I get the remainder of the holiday stuff out of the way I'll look into it a bit more deeply.  At firs...

Re: Google Chrome OS on DT366

I've had some thus-far moderate success with running ChromiumOS Cherry (a lightweight ChromeOS build; see http://chromeos.hexxeh.net) on the DT366.  Here's where I am with it for right now: Pros: - Base OS image dd'd directly to 1GB USB drive and booted successfully. - USB keyboard and mouse recogni...

Core requirements for hacking your WebDT

I'm starting this thread to help document some of the basics involved in hacking your WebDT.  This is partly for my own reference, but largely so that newcomers know what to have on hand before diving in.  I'm writing this from the standpoint of having worked on my own WebDT 366, so YMMV slightly. H...

Re: Enabling persistent settings

This is not turning out to be the greatest of experiments. Even with EWF installed under XP Pro, there are a lot more disk writes being made than I'm happy with.  It's not that it doesn't work, it's just not what I feel it should be.  Further, diskspace usage is ridiculous even with 4GB of FlashROM....

Re: Enabling persistent settings

Okay, figured this one out - EWF had to be disabled for the c: drive in order for persistence to be possible: ewfmgr c: -commitanddisable And, to reenable: ewfmgr c: -enable With 4GB of space and another 4GB in CF, Angrymeat's build is a little more basic than I'm finding I'd like - nothing wrong wi...

Enabling persistent settings

Now that I'm over the activation error hurdle, I'm finding that system and account settings don't remain persistent between reboots.  Just logging off will keep everything as you left it, but actually shutting down causes any installed drivers, account settings, or other normally-persistent data to ...
