Re: Debian
OK over lunch I did some more digging, it looks like the unable to find suitable kernel error has happened to others. One possible fix is to manually set the kernel to install when you reach the 'partition disk' step.

Small USB Drive
I posted in the Windows section that a hardware section would be good. There are several posts over there that are actually more hardware related than windows.

I wish I had more time to help out with this but we have new baby twins in our household so finding time for anything is real tough at the moment.

That add is exactly the same as the one I got from Laptops4Me even down to the typo's so I would bet they are one and the same. That said I didnt have any major problems with laptops for me (other than their add being a little off), and have two more units on the way. I will let you all know what th...

I dont think that is going to work for you, it is 40pin (normal IDE) you need 44pin (2.5in laptop IDE.)

Re: Debian
Im not sure, but could it be that these things need a x586 kernel (Pentium or higher)? Most of the most recent distributions need a x686 (PIII or Athlon XP or later). I tried Xubuntu 8.10 over the weekend and it failed to find a suitable kernel. That said if you have a supported machine, it should s...

Re: WinCE file system format?
Ah, sorry, yes if you did not specify a block size you would have got 512bytes which should be just fine. I the problem does lie elsewhere.

Re: WinCE file system format?
I don't think so. Now if I remember correctly dd has a default block size of 512bytes, and most disks use a block size of 4K (4096 bytes) using a block size higher than the disk block size is not good. So the optimum dd command would be something like dd if=/dev/sdc of=/my/backup.dd bs=4096 conv=not...

Re: Can't find compatiable 1G/2G 44 pin flash driver for DT366.
Firstly, I think it may make sense to make a Hardware Hacks section to the website, this discussion is not really windows or Linux related. Now on to flash... Thinking of this, CF is IDE, its just a matter of mapping the correct pins. http://www.allpinouts.org/index.php/IDE_to_CompactFlash_(CF)_adap...

darkcirca, that sounds very reasonable but I was kind of hoping for something more like 4GB. Do you know if the following would work? http://cpumall.com/able/details.asp?item=DM43DOM4G-AP If not, what is the part number on your 1GB version that you know to work, perhaps we can see if there are large...

Re: Anyone tried a tiny linux distro like DSL?
Fleegman, I think we are thinking along similar lines here. Ideally I am thinking that I would like to have a base system that boots of the internal flash (probably just /boot) and then puts everything else on a CF card. This way wear on the internal CF card can be limited and this would also allow ...

Re: What Drivers Do I need
As my DT did not come with the WiFi card I will choose a compatible card that supports WPA correctly, but do have some more questions. Does anyone know if any of the penmount drivers include source code? Also, which one is used in the NimbleX linux version and which is used in the Thoms Linux MCE ve...
