Re: Debian 5 LXDE Edition

To save space on debian I use either aptitude install --without-recommends Or add the following to apt.conf APT::Install-Recommends "0" APT::Install-Suggests "0" I also did aptitude install --without-reccomends localepurge and then do aptitude clean aptitude purge localepurge on ...

Re: XP Pro format

Both C and D are on the internal Flash drive, they are just separate partitions. If you do not case about CE just blow them both away and install any OS of your choice on the empty space.

Re: How to eliminate a USB hub and a bunch of wires when interfaceing with your DT

I use a similar trick but use VNC. You can install VNC server on the DT and then use either x2vnc if your machine with the keyboard and mouse is a Linux/MAC machine or Win2VNC if it is windows to send the keyboard and mouse events to the WebDT. The other great thing about VNC is you can connect to i...

Wireless Managers / Gui's

I'm in the process of building a Debian Lenny based linux for the Webdt and am to the point of choosing a wireless manager. There are many to choose from but they all seem huge and im running out of space. What wireless manager would you all suggest (Should have some WPA support)? Some of the ones I...

Re: Puppy Linux

I intend to look at this when i have finished my own Debian Lenny based install. It looks like Puppy 5 is going to be very interesting as it can be based on Ubuntu or Debian packages as well (upup and dpup). The default may even be a upup derivative.

Re: Installing xpe on a webdt 366?

I used a an external USB converter and an IDE cdrom from an old machine. This is the one I used: http://www.ewiz.com/detail.php?p=CA-ISATAU2&c=fr&pid=6046e97222312824597403a0b8d5aba07892f434bda237a53ffa9eacd2b1cfac But the following seem to be similar and a little cheaper: http://www.geeks.c...

Re: Small USB Drive

1) If you are running puppy linux or some other 'ram' based linux it gives you somewhere to store your save file/union fs. 2) It gives you somewhere to store large files that only need slow access like mp3's and some areas of the os that can tolerate being slow E.g. /usr/share/docs 3) micro sd cards...

Re: Small USB Drive

Here is what I am going to try, use one of these: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.11294 It is small enough to fit in the battery bay WITH the battery if you take a small piece of the rubber packing out at the top. I then intend to solder 4 small wires directly to it and solder the other en...

Re: Nimblex 2009 WebDT Beta

Things are not as slow as he makes out. It looks like he only used an external flash and not the internal! And as we all know the DT366  uses USB 1.1 no wonder it took 50 seconds to boot. All good news none the less. Dave. > I've only booted from a flash drive where I installed syslinux but if that ...

Re: Installing xpe on a webdt 366?

Another option (if a little radical) is to use LinuxMCE it can control several home automation systems you will need a desktop machine dedicated to LinuxMCE and then download a special linux controller build (Orbiter they call it) for the webpad DT366. I am fairly sure they can control Z-Wave and In...

Re: Installing xpe on a webdt 366?

Download the XPe image and use ghost to install it to the internal flash, you will need to get a XPe key as the image needs activating and will die after a few days if you dont enter it. (Kind of like doing a backup restore see http://webdt.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4 ) Dave. P.S. You aren't by any ...

What applications to install?

I am still looking at making a Debian Lenny (5.01) based install for the webdt. What applications do you think would be useful? I would like to keep the total install down to 512MB so that it will fit in the internal flash.  I think GTK apps seem to be the leanest but i am open to any suggestions. D...

Re: Slackware -beta 2- "SlackIce" Another working image for the WebDT366

Symlinks are simple, lets say you have the cf card formatted and mounted as /cfcard Now lets suppose you want to move the /usr/share/doc folder off to cf. cd /usr/share tar cf - doc | (cd /cfcard && tar xfp - ) mv doc doc.orig ln -s /cfcard/doc doc Once tested you can remove doc.orig to free...
