The cd-rom works fine on other computers, i have v been using it alot on my netbooks and other stuff.

Do you know of any solution to setting the drive letter to somethin else than c? or is it possible to make my d drive bootable? I thought that a format d: /s would fix it, but aparently not.

Iwill try again with bios defaults but that has to wait untill another day

You could get an XPe license, but I'm not even sure if they sell them online. I bought mine from a DT reseller with a flash chip (already installed with XPe). I think the license is around $100 or so itself..

For reference - I got this working.  Had to use a diferent cd-rom. Spent a lot of time figuring this one out Used a  slim HP-somthing with a toshiba drive and external power. My lacie dvd-drive did not work...

I also had problems, for a while, using old cd-rw drive, via ide-usb adapter (stripped out of a portable hd enclosure).

finally figured out that it was ignoring the boot order in bios, if I removed the bootable usb stick, it would then boot off the CD

also, this is off a powered usb hub, not sure if un-powered would work or not.
